The younger generation should not just be participants, but full co-creators of decisions in the process of creating sustainable cities, Susanna Hausmann, head of cities at the charity Fondation Botnar, said at the Youth Leadership for Safe and Resilient Cities event, held as part of WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
According to her, the foundation's activities are aimed at ensuring the well-being of young people and promoting their active participation in urban development processes.
Hausmann explained that the foundation implements projects in various parts of the world, including Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, supporting initiatives aimed at improving the urban environment and engaging the younger generation in these processes.
"The well-being of young people must be accompanied by their strong participation in decision-making processes," she emphasized.
Hausmann emphasized that young people possess unique insights into the state of their cities and are capable of making significant contributions to their development, provided their opinions are taken seriously and resonate.
She also noted the importance of digital tools and data, which allow for the identification of issues previously overlooked by the public.
"Digital technologies help make the invisible visible and create a foundation for collective action," said the representative of Fondation Botnar.
