Switzerland consistently supports the establishment of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Ignazio Cassis, Federal Councillor and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, OSCE Chairman-in-Office, has said.
According to Report, Cassis made the remarks during a press briefing in Baku with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
"Switzerland has consistently supported peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Nearly a year after the initialing of the peace agreement, there is a real opportunity to achieve lasting peace. We are proud that Switzerland has been able to make, even if small, a contribution to advancing this process. I call on my colleague to continue the efforts necessary for the signing and implementation of the agreement, as he spoke about this in detail today," Cassis said.
He added that he was pleased to hear Bayramov's assessment of the current situation regarding the normalization of relations with Armenia.
"This will be an important step toward reconciliation between the peoples of both countries and strengthening stability across the entire region. Switzerland is ready to assist this process if it is useful and at the request of the parties, continuing its long-standing tradition of supporting dialogue and confidence-building measures in the South Caucasus," Cassis said.
