Fergus Auld hails British companies' role in Karabakh restoration

Outgoing UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fergus Auld said he is proud of the participation of British companies in the construction and restoration process in Karabakh.

Report informs that Auld made the remarks today at a farewell meeting with Azerbaijani journalists.

He said visits to Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur were among the most memorable moments during his tenure in Baku.

Auld said he made a wonderful visit to Shusha and Lachin last year together with representatives of the British Chamber of Commerce. He said that each time he visited the region, he saw new changes and felt new hope, adding that he was proud British companies were part of this history.

Auld also noted that Karabakh's development would have been impossible without demining.

He said he was proud that, with the support of the UK government, British companies and NGOs were involved in the demining process in Azerbaijan's liberated territories. He added that since 2022, the UK has led international efforts in this area, describing it as one of the most important works ever carried out by the embassy.

Auld said it was remarkable to see dogs and even rats trained to detect mines in Aghdam and Jabrayil. He also said the UK proudly supported the inclusion of female deminers in national demining teams.
