Fatumata Jau: Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub reflects important evolution in international thinking

The Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub reflects an important evolution in international thinking – the recognition that climate adaptation, urban resilience, peacebuilding, and economic stability are deeply interconnected realities in fragile contexts, Fatumata Jau, Secretary of State for International Cooperation of Guinea-Bissau, said during a panel session entitled "Peace-Positive Climate Action through Urban Solutions in Fragile and Conflict Affected Settings" at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

"In fragile states, climate change rarely manifests itself as an isolated environmental phenomenon. It interacts with economic instability, rapid urbanization, institutional fragility, and social vulnerability. For countries like Guinea-Bissau, climate vulnerability is no longer simply an environmental issue-it is increasingly becoming a challenge to governance and stability.

One of the key contradictions of our era is that the countries least responsible for climate change are often the least prepared for its consequences, while simultaneously facing the greatest barriers to accessing climate finance and resilience infrastructure. This is why the Baku Climate and Peace Hub is so important. It reflects a significant evolution in international thinking-the recognition that climate change adaptation, urban resilience, peacebuilding, and economic stability are deeply interconnected processes in fragile states," she said.
