Expert: Opening of Azerbaijani trading houses in China to deepen co-op between 2 countries

Growing economic and trade relations between China and Azerbaijan have historical roots, Dr. Faig Aghabalayev, lecturer at Sichuan University/ international studies department (Eurasian Institute), told Report.

He noted that trade and economic ties between the countries date back to the times of the ancient Silk Road, and now the Belt and Road Initiative has become the impetus for their development.

“Over the past 10 years, the Belt and Road Initiative, promoted by Chinese President Xi Jinping, fully meets all the interests of Azerbaijan, which is actively striving to develop logistics, transit, becoming a trade hub. Regular high-level meetings, as well as the opening of Azerbaijani trading houses in major cities in China, further deepened the cooperation between the two countries,” he said.

Aghabalayev also believes that the participation of Chinese companies in restoration projects in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan demonstrates China’s political position.

Beijing, in his opinion, is also interested in the Zangazur Corridor project.

“Azerbaijan and China adhere to the fact that trade and economic cooperation based on common and mutual respect is a rational step for the region and the world as a whole,” he said.

On September 3, another Trade House of Azerbaijan was opened in China, and the first one in Beijing. The activities of the house will contribute to the diversification of economic relations between Azerbaijan and China and increase in trade.
