The economic, political, and diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Hungary within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) are at a very high level, Zoltan Egeresi, researcher at the Hungarian Institute for International Relations and Trade, told journalist, Report informs from Budapest.
According to him, hosting the informal Summit of the OTS is a very important opportunity for Hungary:
"Hungary joined the Organization of Turkic States as an observer country in 2018. Seven years have passed, and the biggest event for us will take place tomorrow. This is a great opportunity to introduce Hungary and talk about its role in the Turkic world. We hope that the declaration to be adopted in Budapest will be a very important milestone for the OTS."
The researcher noted that relations between Hungary and Azerbaijan have entered a true "golden era" in recent years:
"Hungary stands behind Azerbaijan on every issue, including the matter of stability in the South Caucasus. During the war, Hungary always supported Azerbaijan. It also supported Azerbaijan's territorial integrity in the European Union and made various statements."
He said that Azerbaijan is also a very important energy source for Hungary:
"In the energy sector, Hungary and Azerbaijan have built very close and significant relationships in recent years. For example, gas transportation from Azerbaijan to Hungary has begun in recent years, and this is very important because Budapest is very sensitive about energy issues due to the war in Ukraine. Cooperation with Azerbaijan in this field is a great opportunity for us. On the other hand, a number of Hungarian energy companies have entered Azerbaijan in recent years. For example, Hungary's oil company is now actively visible in Azerbaijan."
Zoltan Egeresi also emphasized that Hungary is part of the Turkic world:
"That's why in recent years, Hungary has allocated a very large quota for students from Turkic states. Hungary offers special scholarships, and every year about 200 Azerbaijani students are admitted to our universities. If we count the last 4-5 years, the number of Azerbaijani students exceeds one thousand. If we talk about students admitted from the entire Turkic world, then the number reaches several thousands. The Azerbaijani community in Budapest is also very strong."
