EU strongly supports Azerbaijan's approach to mine action and recovery, ambassador says

The European Union strongly supports Azerbaijan's approach, which integrates mine action with territorial rehabilitation, population return, and long-term regional development, Report informs, citing statements by EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Marijana Kujundžić at the 4th International Mine Action Conference in Baku.

According to her, Azerbaijan's experience offers important lessons not only regarding the scale of mine contamination, but also in linking demining operations with subsequent reconstruction and the safe return of residents.

"This is a comprehensive effort in which continued international cooperation remains crucial. The European Union strongly supports this approach," Kujundžić noted.

The ambassador noted that the total volume of collective support provided to Azerbaijan by the European Union in the field of mine clearance has reached 22 million euros.

"Together with member states under the Team Europe initiative, the European Union is committed to helping create a safe and mine-free environment for the population, as well as supporting sustainable development across the entire region," the diplomat stated.
