EU official: 'We will support professionalization of female minesweepers in Azerbaijan'

The European Union will support the professionalization of female minesweepers of Azerbaijan, Peter Michalko, EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan, said at the II International Workshop on "Mine Action: Innovations and Best Practices" held in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, mines are a terror for everyone: “Even after the conflict, its traces remain. Today, the people of Azerbaijan are suffering from landmines. Currently, the European Union remains the most important partner of Azerbaijan in the field of demining. We provide support to Azerbaijan in areas such as education in the field of demining and assistance to mine victims. UNICEF also has a big role in this field. The EU has supported ANAMA to train two female demining teams. Because the existence of a women’s demining team is an initiative of the EU. We will continue to support the professionalization of women in this field, as well as the demining of the territories of Azerbaijan.”
