The United Kingdom intends to further deepen its cooperation with Azerbaijan in the areas of defense and security, Britain's new ambassador to Azerbaijan, Duncan Norman, told a press conference, Report informs.
The diplomat said Azerbaijan remains an important partner in defense and security, adding that bilateral cooperation in these areas has reached an unprecedented level.
"We are seeking to further deepen defense cooperation through training, closer defense ties and opportunities for cooperation that will allow Azerbaijan to maintain its own capabilities while benefiting from the UK's defense expertise," Norman said.
The ambassador noted that the UK is proud to have been one of the first international partners to support demining activities in Azerbaijan.
"We look forward to continuing this support to ensure the safe return of former internally displaced persons," he said.
According to Norman, the UK is also cooperating with Azerbaijan's law enforcement agencies in combating organized crime.
"We are working with Azerbaijan's law enforcement agencies to combat organized crime, including drug trafficking, illegal migration and cybercrime. The UK is proud to have the opportunity to share its expertise and benefit from the extensive experience and capabilities of Azerbaijan's law enforcement agencies so that both countries can benefit from closer cooperation," the ambassador said.
