Elchin Babayev: Azerbaijan, African countries expanding cooperation in education

In recent years, Azerbaijan and African countries have been actively expanding cooperation in higher education, scientific research, diplomacy, and youth exchange, Elchin Babayev, Rector of Baku State University (BSU), said at a conference dedicated to Africa Day 2026, Report informs.

He stated that the university is particularly proud to participate in the conference, which has become an important platform for meaningful dialogue and long-term partnerships between Azerbaijan and African countries, which are expanding year after year.

The Rector recalled that last year, the university hosted a delegation led by Namusa Tubanyukuga, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Human Resources Training of the Republic of South Africa. During the visit, the parties discussed the possibility of creating joint master's and doctoral programs, developing academic mobility, digital education, and scientific cooperation.

"This visit demonstrated that, despite the distance, our universities and societies share many common aspirations: investing in youth, expanding access to quality education, and innovation-driven development," Babayev stated.

He also noted that Baku State University has deep academic traditions in the study of Asia and Africa. "The history of the Department of Asian and African Studies at Baku State University's Faculty of History spans over a century," the rector emphasized.
