Deputy PM: Azerbaijan-US strategic charter marked historic milestone

Azerbaijan attaches great importance to developing cooperation with the United States, and the signing of the Charter on Strategic Partnership marked a historic milestone in bilateral relations.

Report informs that Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov said this at an event marking the 250th anniversary of US independence.

"The signing of the Charter on Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States is rightly regarded as a historic milestone in the development of bilateral relations," the deputy prime minister said.

According to him, Azerbaijan, which established diplomatic relations with the United States 34 years ago, has always been interested in developing cooperation in trade, the economy, energy and other areas of mutual interest.

Sharifov noted that Azerbaijan's participation in the Global Coalition to Combat International Terrorism, established by the United States, as well as the joint contribution of Baku and Washington to global energy security, are clear examples of cooperation between the two countries.

He stressed that Azerbaijan-US relations are now developing rapidly.

According to the deputy prime minister, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to the United States last August at the invitation of US President Donald Trump laid the foundation for a new stage in relations between the two countries.

Sharifov said President Ilham Aliyev had highly appreciated Trump's support and mediation efforts toward the signing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the opening and operation of the Zangazur Corridor, and the creation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity.

He added that, as part of the continued positive momentum in bilateral relations, further meetings between the Azerbaijani and US leaders had been held, while US Vice President JD Vance's visit to Azerbaijan in February once again confirmed the intensity of high-level political dialogue.

Sharifov also expressed confidence that improving economic cooperation mechanisms would give additional momentum to the expansion of trade and economic ties and interaction between the business communities of the two countries.

He also noted that, after Azerbaijan's victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, President Ilham Aliyev's far-sighted and constructive policy had shaped the contours of a new geopolitical reality and strengthened the country's geopolitical role in the South Caucasus and the Caspian region.
