Deputy minister: Azerbaijan actively promoted transparency at COP29

Azerbaijan actively worked to raise the political importance of transparency at COP29, and this momentum should be maintained, Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev said in his opening speech at the Fourth Climate Week in Baku, during a session dedicated to "Energy Transition, Climate Finance and Industrial Decarbonization," Report informs.

He said Azerbaijan had encouraged parties at COP29 to submit their first Biennial Transparency Reports.

"We also established the Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform to support developing countries in implementing the Enhanced Transparency Framework. Now, this momentum needs to be maintained. While there is an opportunity, I call on parties to prepare and submit their second Biennial Transparency Reports on time," Rafiyev said.

He noted that COP31 carries significant political responsibility in this regard.

"Antalya should not be a place where we simply reopen discussions on what was achieved yesterday. COP31 should pave the way for implementing the outcomes of these discussions. This requires trust," he said.

Concluding his speech, Rafiyev called on participants to use Baku Climate Action Week to help narrow differences, build partnerships and create the political conditions for a successful COP31.

"Azerbaijan will remain an active partner, defending multilateralism, building bridges and supporting all parties in achieving an ambitious, balanced and genuinely implementation-oriented outcome in Antalya," he said.
