Deputy ambassador: Israel welcomes efforts on fulfillment of UN peacekeepers' mandate in Lebanon

Israel welcomes the efforts on fulfillment of the mandate of the UN Peacekeeping Mission (UNIFIL) in Lebanon, deputy chief of Israel's diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan Avital Rosenberg told Report during an online briefing.

"We welcome the efforts of the United States and other countries to fulfill the mandate of the UN Peacekeeping Mission (UNIFIL) in Lebanon. The situation is complicated by the fact that the actions of the organization are hampered by the Hezbollah militants. They store their weapons, particularly missiles, in the arsenals that are located in civilian settlements. In addition, in December 2018 the Israeli army revealed and eliminated 6 underground tunnels, through which they were moving," she said.

Rosenberg noted that Hezbollah's actions 'contain a threat to the security of the Israeli state and go contrary to the UN resolutions.'

Notably, the UN Security Council earlier voted for extension of the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon due to the escalation on the Lebanon-Israel border.
