David Puyana: Global challenges require united Global South

The influence of the countries of the Global South at the UN has increased significantly in recent years, David Fernandez Puyana, Ambassador and Permanent Observer of the United Nations University for Peace (UPEACE) to the UN Offices in Vienna and Geneva, said at the General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that organizations such as the UN Conference on Trade and Development and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization were created under the influence of countries of the Global South.

"Representatives of civil society in the Global South bear a special responsibility in this period of global change. We are all part of one humanity and share a common dream of peace and stability. Global challenges require global solutions – and this is impossible without a strong and united Global South that advocates for freedom, development, and solidarity. If we want peace, we must work for it," he said.

Puyana also noted that the event taking place in Azerbaijan is a shining example of how people embody the values ​​and goals of the UN as the world's most important multilateral organization.

"I congratulate Azerbaijan on its leadership and vision in organizing a gathering of prominent civil society representatives from across the Global South in Baku," he emphasized.
