Climate change impacts cannot be ignored - Nizami Ganjavi International Center co-chair

Climate change impacts cannot be ignored, especially amid rapid urbanization, Co-chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center Ismail Serageldin said at a panel session during Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.

According to him, more than half of the world's population lives in cities, which serve as centers of economic activity and innovation.

"In addition, urban centers tend to turn into 'heat islands' due to dense development, concreting, heat reflection, a large number of cars, and other factors," Serageldin said.

He noted that this problem can be addressed through climate change adaptation and the active involvement of citizens.

"In general, as the world moves toward COP31, it is necessary to learn lessons from the consequences associated with climate change," Serageldin added.
