Cambodia outlines urban policy priorities at WUF13

Cambodia is implementing programs to develop green infrastructure, urban digitalization, and affordable housing, including social rental schemes for vulnerable groups, Kemro Beng Hong Socheat, Director-General of the General Department of Land Management and Urban Planning of Cambodia, said during a ministerial roundtable within the 13th session of the World Urban Forum 13 in Baku.

Report quotes him as saying Cambodia is adopting inclusive urban planning approaches, implementing measures to reduce the impact of urban heat, expanding green infrastructure and digital city systems, and developing affordable and social housing programmes, including rental options for vulnerable populations.

He noted that the government of Cambodia, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Bank, held the third National Forum on Urban Development and Housing in Phnom Penh, where the integration of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals into national policy was discussed.

"My country is also strengthening public-private partnerships, expanding land concession programmes for low-income groups, carrying out land registration reforms, and improving transparency to strengthen investor confidence and sustainable urban development," he said.
