Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has said that the OSCE can provide support to Azerbaijan in addressing the threat posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance.
According to Report, Bayramov made the remarks during a press briefing in Baku with Swiss Foreign Minister and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ignazio Cassis.
"Azerbaijan faces the problem of mine threats and the presence of unexploded ordnance. The OSCE, as an organization with experience in this field, can support Azerbaijan on this issue," the minister said.
He added that the matter was also discussed during the meeting.
Bayramov said that 433 people have become victims of mine incidents since 2020. He noted that after the liberation of territories, Azerbaijan saw that the scale of the problem was even larger.
"Azerbaijan is using its own resources to address this problem. Of course, there are countries supporting Azerbaijan, but compared with Azerbaijan's own contribution, this support is very limited," he said.
The minister added that, considering the mine-clearing capabilities of the OSCE and its member states, Azerbaijan expects the organization to take a more active role.
"We continue to raise and express this expectation in Vienna, and we have expressed it today as well," Bayramov said.
