Bahrain is calling for a fair and inclusive housing policy that will ensure the needs of women and girls are taken into account in planning and decision-making, Bahrain's Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Amna Al Rumaihi, said at the Women's Assembly at WUF13 in Baku, according to Report.
She emphasized that housing is not just a roof over people's heads; it is a matter of human dignity, family stability, social justice, and quality of life.
"From this perspective, developing a fair and inclusive housing policy and adopting a transformative approach will ensure that the needs of women and girls are taken into account in planning and decision-making, rather than merely reacting to them after the fact," the minister noted.
She added that in the Kingdom of Bahrain, women's empowerment is viewed as a key element of sustainable and inclusive development.
Al Rumaihi emphasized that the country's Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is working to develop housing services that promote family stability and ensure women's access to decent, equitable housing.
She noted that by 2025, more than 6,555 women in Bahrain had benefited from housing services.
"Special attention is paid to women in greatest need, orphans, people with disabilities, widows, and pregnant women in the regions," the minister said.
The minister also emphasized the importance of women's participation in decision-making processes in urban development.
"Women offer a different perspective on family, care, daily life, and environmental quality. These are the elements that create the best cities in the world," Al Rumaihi stated.
She emphasized that expanding international partnerships and the exchange of ideas is essential to building a more equitable and sustainable future.
