Azerbaijani MP: Statements by Russian officials targeting Azerbaijan entail legal responsibility

Statements, remarks and actions by Russian officials toward Azerbaijan are provoking confrontation and entail legal responsibility, Azerbaijani MP Jeyhun Mammadov told Report.

He said that despite repeated warnings from Azerbaijan, Russia continues to take steps that could damage relations between the two countries. According to Mammadov, such statements are inconsistent with both international law and bilateral relations.

"Statements by Russian officials and a correspondent that aired on the Moscow 24 television channel are another clear example of this. Interference in the internal affairs of another state and calls for amendments to its Constitution constitute serious violations of the law and entail legal responsibility," Mammadov said.

He noted that Azerbaijan has repeatedly told the Russian side that officials and television channels in the country should exercise caution in their statements and remarks.

"Such behavior, remarks and statements provoke confrontation and entail legal responsibility. Azerbaijan is also taking steps to hold these individuals accountable in accordance with the requirements of international law," the MP added.

Mammadov said Russia should prevent such statements and take serious measures against those making them.

"On the one hand, Russia says it has good relations with Azerbaijan, while on the other hand it makes various accusations against our country. Such steps must come to an end, and efforts should be made to develop bilateral relations," the MP said.
