Azerbaijani journalists meet Mountain Jewish community in Akko

A group of Azerbaijani journalists met with representatives of the Mountain Jewish community from Azerbaijan in the Israeli city of Akko, Report's correspondent in Israel informs.

Community representatives spoke about their role in strengthening friendship between the two peoples and relations between Azerbaijan and Israel.

"We have always supported and will continue to support Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and represent its interests in Israel," said Nehemia Shirin Michaeli, head of Akko's Azerbaijani Mountain Jewish community.

He also expressed hope that friendship between the two countries would continue to strengthen.

"Here in Israel, we are not simply friends of Azerbaijan, but brothers. When Azerbaijan defeated Armenia and restored its territorial integrity, people celebrated in the streets of Israel just as they did in Azerbaijan," he said.

During the meeting, Akko Mayor Ohad Segev presented Rantik Agarunov, brother of Azerbaijan's National Hero Albert Agarunov, with a certificate of recognition honoring and perpetuating his brother's memory.
