Azerbaijani expert: We have shown that we will not yield to Iran's threats

"The statements of Iranian officials are usually untrue. In other words, their actions do not agree with their words, political commentator, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor Sabir Mammadli told Report while commenting on recent statements made by Iranian officials against Azerbaijan.

According to him, Azerbaijan's southern neighbor, on the one hand, helps the remnants of the separatists in Karabakh, and on the other hand, recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan:

"The Iranian foreign minister recently said that Iran would expand ties with Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia. It means he does not want to accept reality. The Iranian regime is trying to aggravate the situation, to threaten Azerbaijan. Until now, we have always acted in accordance with neighborly relations. But this time, the answer was adequate. President Ilham Aliyev openly asked why Iran did not hold exercises in those border areas when Azerbaijani lands were under occupation. We have shown that we will not yield to Iran's threats. After that, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that the exercises were a message to neighboring countries. Thus, official Tehran is going towards a dead end."

The professor stressed that Azerbaijan's position is firm:

"Therefore, the softening rhetoric of Iranian officials was expected. Such statements will increase in the coming days because they faced a serious reaction. Tehran, of course, must step back. I must also say that the Iranian government may use some forces to commit internal provocations. The recent statement by the Iranian religious leader may provoke some. In this sense, our law enforcement agencies and citizens must be careful."
