Azerbaijan urges mine-action support on behalf of 19 states

Azerbaijan delivered a joint statement on behalf of a cross-regional group of 19 countries during the general debate of the 19th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Report informs.
The group includes Albania, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mexico, Oman, Pakistan, Panama, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Türkiye, Vietnam and Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan's Permanent Mission to the UN said on X.
The statement noted that around 15% of the world's population lives with disabilities and stressed the need to ensure the Convention's human rights protections for persons with disabilities in all circumstances.
The countries said particular attention should be paid to people in conflict and post-conflict settings affected by mines, explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices.
The participating states called for faster international support to advance disability prevention in conflict and post-conflict settings, especially through the establishment, development and effective operation of national mine-action capacities.
They also emphasized the need to strengthen national capacities for emergency and continuing medical care, physical rehabilitation and prosthetics, education and economic reintegration for all persons with disabilities.
