Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov called on Armenia to demonstrate goodwill and put more effort into discussions on normalizing relations between the countries, according to Report.
"I briefed my counterpart on the post-conflict situation in the region and spoke about Azerbaijan's efforts to improve the peace agenda, including the latest round of negotiations on a draft peace agreement with Armenia. Reconstruction work in the liberated territories, the opening of transport communications - all these issues are also on the agenda," Bayramov said at a briefing following a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart Gabrielius Landsbergis in Vilnius.
The foreign minister added that despite the small dynamics in the efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period, progress made in all areas, namely on the draft peace treaty that defines the foundations of bilateral relations, the delimitation of state borders and the restoration of transport and communication ties "has not lived up to our expectations yet."
Bayramov expressed belief that the best way to normalize relations between the two countries is based on mutual recognition and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Azerbaijan's position in this case is clear, principled and constant, Bayramov said.
