Azerbaijan, NATO mull new joint mine action projects, official says

Azerbaijan and NATO are discussing the possibility of implementing new joint projects in mine action, including support for Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) initiatives, data sharing, and expert exchange, Eirini Lemos-Maniati, Head of NATO HQ's Arms Control, Disarmament and WMD Non-Proliferation Center, said at the 4th International Mine Action Conference in Baku.

Report quotes her as saying Azerbaijan is an important partner for the North Atlantic Alliance, and cooperation between the two sides is deep and long-standing.

"We are holding discussions with the mine action community, with ANAMA as the leading organization in this field, as well as with allies and partners. We are considering opportunities to provide additional support for your activities and other initiatives," Lemos-Maniati said.

The NATO representative emphasized the importance of exchanging data, information, knowledge, and practical experience in mine clearance.

Lemos-Maniati added that growing attention is being directed toward knowledge transfer and capacity-building for partner nations.
