Azerbaijan, Kenya discuss stronger parliamentary ties

The development of relations between Azerbaijan and Kenya and the importance of expanding parliamentary cooperation were discussed during a meeting between Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Kenya, Sultan Hajiyev, and Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly Moses Wetang'ula, Report informs.
Ambassador Hajiyev recalled that a parliamentary friendship group with Azerbaijan was established in the Kenyan Senate earlier this year, while the Azerbaijani parliament also formed a working group on interparliamentary relations with Kenya.
He expressed hope that the Kenyan National Assembly would soon establish its own working group for cooperation with Azerbaijan's parliament.
The ambassador also stressed the importance of continuing the active cooperation between the two countries' legislatures at the international level, including during the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will be held this year in Arusha, Tanzania.
Speaker Wetang'ula said there are favorable conditions for further strengthening cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries and voiced his support for ongoing efforts in this direction.
He also highlighted the significance of Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto's planned visit to Baku to attend the 13th session of the World Urban Forum under the United Nations.
The speaker praised the activities of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established at Azerbaijan's initiative, as well as the Azerbaijani parliament's contributions and initiatives within various international organizations.
