Azerbaijan, Iraqi Turkmens discuss ties in Kirkuk

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Baghdad Eldar Salimov visited the headquarters of the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF), the political union of Iraqi Turkmens, Report informs.

The ambassador met there with ITF Chairman and Kirkuk Governor Mehmet Seman Ağa.

In a post on X, Salimov said he discussed the future of multifaceted ties between Azerbaijan and Iraqi Turkmens, as well as joint projects, with MPs and the provincial leadership.

The ambassador also noted that he visited the historic Kirkuk Citadel with the governor.

He said this unique symbol of ancient culture currently needs large-scale restoration and reconstruction work. Salimov expressed hope that the ancient monument will soon regain the grandeur it deserved.

A Turkmen governor has been elected in Kirkuk and approved by the Iraqi president for the first time in about a century.
