Azerbaijan highlights energy efficiency challenges at UN

Azerbaijan believes that despite significant progress achieved in expanding renewable energy and increasing energy efficiency, serious challenges still remain.

According to Report, this was reflected in Azerbaijan's statement on this matter delivered by Gamar Safarova, Third Secretary of the country's Permanent Mission to the UN, at an informal interactive dialogue on Accelerating the Global Energy Transition: Advancing Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and International Cooperation.

The statement read that in order to ensure that all countries, especially developing ones, benefit from the opportunities of the energy transition, it is essential to bridge investment gaps, modernize grid infrastructure, expand energy storage capacities, as well as ensure access to affordable financing and technologies.

"Azerbaijan believes that cross-border cooperation and multinational partnerships can play a crucial role in strengthening energy security while advancing global climate goals," the statement highlighted.

The statement also underscored Azerbaijan's efforts within the framework of the COP29 presidency to strengthen international cooperation and advance implementation in key areas of climate action, and highlighted the significant achievements attained.

"At the national level, Azerbaijan is pursuing an ambitious energy diversification agenda, guided by its national development strategy titled Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development, which identifies building a clean environment and green growth country as one of the country's five national priorities," Safarova stated.

The statement noted that Azerbaijan's post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts also demonstrate its commitment to green growth and sustainability, and drew attention to the fact that Azerbaijan remains committed to advancing a clean environment and green growth through investments in renewable energy and cooperation in sustainable infrastructure, and stands ready to work with all partners to develop an inclusive, sustainable and resilient energy future that benefits everyone.
