Aygun Aliyeva: Global South should take part in shaping global agenda

Today, the world faces complex geopolitical crises, climate change, humanitarian challenges, and growing inequality, Aygun Aliyeva, chairperson of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), said at the General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform, Report informs.

She emphasized the need to more clearly and convincingly communicate the views of countries in the Global South to the global community during these challenging times: "While today approximately 70% of UN member states belong to the Global South, less than 4% of NGOs with consultative status with ECOSOC are located in countries of the Global South. This disparity is not just a statistical indicator, but a reality that is reflected in international decision-making, access to opportunities, and the shaping of the global agenda. Decisions about the future of the world cannot be made without taking into account the views of the majority of the planet's population."

The agency's head added that the issue of the Global South should not remain just a topic for discussion: "Countries of the Global South must act as constructive participants in shaping the global agenda and making decisions that affect their future."
