Anar Valiyev: Housing rights must be recognized and prioritized as human right

Housing rights must be recognized and prioritized as a human right.

Report informs that Anar Valiyev, Associate Professor at ADA University, said this at the closing ceremony of WUF13 in Baku.

According to him, the global housing crisis is reaching a critical point.

"This crisis is not accidental, but the result of deep structural, systemic and governance problems. Safe, accessible and affordable housing is an integral part of a shared future and forms a single system together with public spaces, schools, healthcare and other services," Valiyev said.

He noted that the next decade should be shaped as a decade of action to accelerate the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and measure progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.

"We call on countries to make clear commitments, document successful programs and projects, and share implementation practices," he said.
