Amina Mohammed: Azerbaijan raised issue of urbanism to global stage

Azerbaijan has brought the topic of urban development to the global stage by combining respect for centuries-old traditions with the promotion of modern approaches to city development, stated Amina Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General, at the closing ceremony of WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

"By declaring 2026 the Year of Urbanism and Architecture, Azerbaijan has elevated urban development to the global level, honoring centuries-old traditions while promoting progressive approaches to the new challenges of the modern world," she said.

Mohammed noted that processes of restoration and development, community reintegration, infrastructure reconstruction, and peacebuilding are observed throughout Azerbaijan.

She emphasized that the territories liberated from occupation are gradually transforming, after restoration, into centers of cultural life, social cohesion, and economic growth.
