Colombia views Azerbaijan as an important partner in the South Caucasus and the Eurasian region and expects to continue strengthening relations, Colombian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nelsy Raquel Munar Jaramillo said at a reception marking Colombia's National Day, Report informs.

The diplomat noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations on December 13, 1994, Baku and Bogotá have built friendly relations based on mutual respect, constructive dialogue, and shared interests.

"The opening of the Colombian Embassy in Baku in 2014 was an important milestone in this process," she emphasized.

According to the ambassador, an effective mechanism for political consultations has been in place between the countries since 2011, the sixth round of which took place in Baku in April of this year.

A mechanism for consular consultations is also in place, she noted.

"Culture and education remain the strongest bridges connecting our peoples.

For many years, the embassy has actively promoted Colombian literature, music, and the Spanish language in Azerbaijan, organizing exhibitions, literary events, concerts, and academic programs.

In June 2026, the 14th annual Spanish language course for Azerbaijani diplomats and civil servants began.

This year also saw increased interest among Colombian students in studying in Azerbaijan.

In 2025, we began collaborating with the ASAN Service in the area of public services and social innovation, which is developing successfully.

Furthermore, strong ties have been established between our parliaments," the ambassador said.

Nelsy Raquel Munar Jaramillo noted that Colombian writers, poets, editors, and publishers will visit Azerbaijan in October.

"In December, we will present one of the embassy's largest cultural initiatives – a concert of Colombian music performed by the Uzeyir Hajibayli Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra at the Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic," she added.

According to her, cooperation between the countries is also developing successfully in the multilateral arena.

"Colombia and Azerbaijan continue to support each other and jointly advocate for the strengthening of peace, sustainable development, respect for international law, and ensuring security. We intend to further expand our cooperation within international organizations," she concluded.
