Belgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Julien de Frepon says since arriving in Azerbaijan about a year ago, he has seen significant potential to expand cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.
"Over the past year, many representatives of Belgian companies have visited Azerbaijan. These businesses operate in sectors such as energy, transport, logistics, and the maritime industry - all of which show growing interest in Azerbaijan," the diplomat told Report.
He emphasized that Azerbaijan is a key partner for Europe, both in terms of energy security and as a vital trade link between Asia and Europe. The country's strategic location largely explains the increasing activity of Belgian companies in the region, he added.
The ambassador also highlighted the important role of the Belgian-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (BELGAZERCOM), which facilitates business delegation visits and strengthens economic ties.
"Thanks to such initiatives, we've recently witnessed multiple visits by Belgian companies. I believe this clearly demonstrates the high potential for further cooperation between our countries," he added.
Speaking on high-level bilateral visits, Ambassador de Frepon underlined their frequency and importance.
"Since my appointment, I had the honor of welcoming our prime minister to Baku last year for COP29. Several other senior ministers have also visited Azerbaijan. This reflects the strong interest in deepening Belgium–Azerbaijan relations," he concluded.
