Ali Naghiyev: Recruitment of mercenaries poses serious security threat

The recruitment of people through various means to take part in military operations as mercenaries poses a serious threat to the security environment, Director of Azerbaijan's State Security Service (SSS), Colonel General Ali Naghiyev, said.

According to Report, Naghiyev made the remarks while addressing the 28th meeting of the Conference of Special Services of Turkic-Speaking States in Kazakhstan.

The SSS chief drew attention to new global and regional threats arising from current geopolitical processes, including the serious consequences of ongoing large-scale military confrontations for the operation of transport corridors.

"The recruitment of citizens through various means to take part in military operations as mercenaries, as well as the smuggling of weapons, ammunition and explosives illegally removed from combat zones, poses a serious threat to the security environment and aggravates the criminal situation," Naghiyev said.
