Abdullayev: Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries moving from competition to joint projects

Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries are increasingly moving from competition toward joint project implementation, including in the investment sector, Yusif Abdullayev, Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO), said at the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026).

According to Report, he noted that Azerbaijan has established bilateral funds with several Central Asian countries, creating opportunities for joint project implementation.

"Three, four or five years ago, we may have been competing, but now we are working together. I think this is very important," Abdullayev said.

He noted that each country in the region has its own advantages for foreign investors, while Azerbaijan's geographic location is one of its key strengths.

"The location of our country at this crossroads is crucial for us under the current circumstances and given what is happening in the world," the AZPROMO chief said.

Abdullayev also stressed that investment promotion agencies and relevant government institutions across the region continue to compete for investors by offering more attractive incentives and creating new opportunities in response to business demand.

At the same time, he said political stability remains one of the most attractive factors for foreign investors in the region.
