Xabi Alonso becomes third Real Madrid coach to win first five La Liga matches

After Real Madrid"s 2-0 victory over Espanyol in the 5th round of La Liga, head coach Xabi Alonso matched a feat previously achieved by only two other managers in the history of the Spanish giants.

According to Report and the statistical portal Opta Sport, Alonso became the third coach in Real Madrid"s history to win his first five La Liga matches. The previous managers to accomplish this were José Quirante in the 1928/1929 season and Vanderlei Luxemburgo in 2004/2005.

Following the first five rounds of the Spanish championship, Real Madrid leads the league table with 15 points. Catalan club Barcelona holds second place with 10 points and one game in hand.
