President: Qarabag FC represented our country, our people in Champions League

Baku. 18 December. REPORT.AZ/ "In team sports, our athletes have shown excellent results. Our volleyball team won the fourth place at European Women's Volleyball Championship. They were even close to winning medals. They were close to the victory in the semi-final match. But I think it is a great achievement to become the fourth in a very popular sport like volleyball in Europe. Of course, our footballers - our native Qarabag team for the first time ever participated in final stage of the Champions League. It is a great victory of Azerbaijani football and the team represented our country, our people and our Karabakh with the dignity in these games”.

Report informs, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Ilham Aliyev said at the ceremony dedicated to sport results of 2017 at the Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee (NOC).

"I remember, during the building of the Olympic Stadium, some ideas were voiced that we do not need such a big arena, as we have a stadium named after Tofig Bahramov with a capacity of 30,000 people, and other stadiums and this arena would never be full of people. Today, however, it turns out that more than 60,000 spectators came to the games of Qarabag FC. Today, the Baku Olympic Stadium is one of the world's number one Olympic stadiums. It is no coincidence that in a few years the final meeting of the UEFA Europa League will be held in this stadium. At the same time, several matches of the European Championship will be held at this stadium", head of state said.
