Current FIFA president Gianni Infantino to run for re-election in 2027

Current President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Gianni Infantino will participate in the organization's presidential elections in March 2027, Report informs, citing journalist Rob Harris on X, based on a source within the organization.

"The FIFA President announced in April that he will stand for re-election in 2027. Of course, nothing has changed. Mr Infantino will be standing for re-election," he wrote.

The 56-year-old Infantino was elected head of FIFA at an extraordinary congress in February 2016. He was later re-elected to this post twice.

Earlier, Infantino lost the support of UEFA amid plans to transfer some of the rights to host the World Cup to private investors.

According to Infantino, this would allow increasing the revenues of FIFA member associations and promote the development of football globally.

The initiative was criticized by a number of football officials, federations, and organizations.

It was opposed by UEFA, CONCACAF, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL).
