Taleh Kazimov: Record turnover in interbank money market in 2026

In 2026, Azerbaijan's interbank money market has recorded a historic turnover, Governor of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), Taleh Kazimov, stated at today"s press conference, Report informs.

"Since 2023, we have established the interbank money market on the Bloomberg trading platform. The year 2026 has seen the highest turnover recorded on this platform. Banks are already conducting currency transactions among themselves. I would not say that there was no demand for currency at all. Some banks had demand, while others had sufficient currency to meet this demand internally. In other words, there was no need for CBA"s currency. Since banks balanced demand and supply among themselves, there was no need for our currency auctions. This is a very important matter," he noted.

In the first quarter of 2026, Azerbaijani banks concluded 1,041 transactions worth 42.1 billion manats (just over $24.764 billion) on the Bloomberg trading system. Compared to the same period last year, this represents an 86.3% increase in value and a 10.4% decrease in the number of transactions.
