SOCAR's green bonds generate $18M in returns

Today, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) made the sixth coupon payment on its green bonds, transferring $3 million to bondholders' accounts, Report informs, citing SOCAR Capital.

With this payment, the total income distributed to investors from SOCAR's green bonds has reached $18 million.

SOCAR's green bonds were issued on January 15, 2025, to support financing of green energy projects in Azerbaijan. The bonds have a five‑year maturity, offer an annual yield of 6%, and have attracted strong investor interest.

Since March 7, 2025, the bonds have been traded on the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE), contributing significantly to activity in the domestic capital market. To date, 580 transactions worth $55.6 million have been concluded.

Overall, trading volume of SOCAR's outstanding bonds on the BSE has reached $141 million, with 1,850 deals, accounting for 21% of all corporate bond transactions.

Since the first issuance in 2016, SOCAR bonds have generated a total of $64.375 million in interest payments to investors.

The green bonds, for which ABB Invest acts as market maker, are tax‑exempt. Quarterly coupon payments will provide investors with a total of $60 million in income by maturity.
