New law to enable international brokers to remotely join Baku Stock Exchange

The new law "On the Securities Market" will enable international brokers to remotely become members of the Baku Stock Exchange CJSC, Chairman of the Exchange's Management Board Ruslan Khalilov said at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku, Report informs.

"When talking about building infrastructure, of course, I can mention initiatives from our first strategic period, such as our meetings with various companies. As an exchange, over the past three years, we have met with more than 80 companies in Azerbaijan under the Listing Advisory Program, informed them and explained the opportunities for entering the market. We even conducted research for some of them, going beyond our exchange function and acting as an investment bank that provided them with advice free of charge. However, this should not be the fundamental approach. The key issue is to build the infrastructure. The Central Bank of Azerbaijan is doing significant work on drafting the new law 'On the Securities Market.' This law will address some previously unresolved challenges related to the diversification of investment products, including share categories, derivatives and trading rules. One of the issues particularly relevant to us is creating the possibility of remote membership so that international brokers can trade on the Exchange's platform through direct technological and depository connections without opening a branch or representative office in the country," he noted.
