In 2024, the share of customs payments collected by the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan in the country's GDP amounted to 5.3%, said Natig Shirinov, Deputy Chairman of the SCC, Report informs.
He made the announcement at a conference themed "Financial control - as a guarantor of the protection of constitutional rights of the state and private sector" dedicated to the Year of Constitution and Sovereignty.
Shirinov highlighted that this figure stood at only 2.6% in 2014: "At the same time, the specific weight of customs collections in the non-oil sector has also increased significantly."
The deputy further stated that the volume of customs collections reached 6.448 billion manats (almost $3.793 billion) in 2024, which exceeded the forecast by 3.3%.
"The funds remaining at the disposal of entrepreneurs amounted to 5.7 billion manats (just under $3.353 billion). These increases were made possible thanks to the simplification of customs procedures and wide application of digital solutions,” he added.
Shirinov also pointed out that a positive dynamic is also observed in budget revenues: “For 2024, the funds collected by the State Customs Committee constitute 17.9% of total budget revenues (34.6% for the non-oil sector). Increasing transparency in the customs system and improving the efficiency of fiscal policy is one of the main targets."
