MP calls for wider use of AI in Azerbaijan's public procurement

The use of artificial intelligence in public procurement and tenders in Azerbaijan is necessary, MP Vugar Bayramov said at a meeting of the Azerbaijani Parliament's Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship, Report informs.

He said an opinion by the Chamber of Accounts also shows that in more than 51% of public procurement procedures, the difference between the estimated price and the price offered by companies exceeds 20%.

"From a legislative perspective in particular, this is quite a significant difference. For example, we see that in 35 of the 38 OECD member countries, artificial intelligence is already being used in public procurement in one form or another," Bayramov said.

He noted that Italy had already adopted specific legislation concerning the use of artificial intelligence and blockchain.

"I believe that Azerbaijan also needs to make wider use of artificial intelligence in public procurement and tenders," the MP said.

Bayramov added that the use of artificial intelligence would contribute not only to greater transparency but also to increased efficiency.
