The high cost of land plots remains a key barrier to providing Nigeria's population with affordable housing.
Report informs that Ahmed Baba, technical adviser to the CEO of Family Homes Funds Limited, said this at the panel session titled "Developer Coalition for the Promotion of Productive Partnerships in the Global South, and Preliminary Presentation of the CAHF Housing Finance Yearbook 2025/2026" held as part of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
"The cost of acquiring land can reach 40% of the final price of a housing unit. To overcome this problem, partnerships need to be established with state governments under which land plots for each project are allocated free of charge and without any encumbrances. At the same time, land rights are transferred to funds, which protects the interests of both investors and future homeowners and prevents the misuse of plots," Baba stressed.
