EBRD: Pilot projects for 50-60 apartments may launch public-private partnerships

Public-private partnerships in the housing sector require a step-by-step approach and a clear strategic vision, Pawel Krasny, head of Gender Equality and Economic Inclusion at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), said at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

"Effective public-private partnerships in affordable housing cannot occur without the step-by-step building of trust and a well-thought-out strategy. No government, upon coming to power, launches a public-private partnership the very next day. It is a long and complex process," he noted.

Krasny added that even relatively modest pilot initiatives, such as the construction of 50-60 affordable apartments, can serve as a sign of commitment to joint work and define a vector for further collaboration.

He also emphasized the need for a clear distinction between discussions of specific projects and the debate on improving the investment ecosystem as a whole.
