CBA: Cash FX purchases in Azerbaijan exceed sales by $311M

In January–May 2026, cash purchases of foreign currency (FX) in Azerbaijan exceeded sales by $311 million, Report informs, referring to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to CBA, supply in the foreign exchange market exceeded demand for the reporting period. This trend was observed in both cash and non-cash segments.

The bank also noted that the dollarization level of resident individuals' deposits fell by 2.8 percentage points over the past 12 months, reaching 27% in May.

During the same period, the volume of money transfers into the country rose by 28.8% compared to last year, totaling $560.1 million.

"The external sector indicators remain favorable. By year-end, the forecast for the current account surplus is expected to improve further, driven by rising global energy prices and continued positive trends in non-oil and gas exports," the CBA stated.
