AIIB president: Azerbaijan making significant contribution to development of sustainable infrastructure

Throughout the entire period of cooperation with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Azerbaijan has proven itself to be a reliable and strategically significant partner in achieving the key objectives of the financial institution, Bank President Zou Jiayi stated, commenting on the decision to hold the 12th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors in Baku, Report informs, citing the AIIB.
The meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors will take place in Baku on July 14-15, 2027.
In Doha, during the 11th meeting, Qatar's Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari officially handed over the chairmanship of the Board of Governors to Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov.
The bank's president emphasized that Baku, as one of the founding states of the AIIB, plays a significant role in strengthening interregional ties and building sustainable infrastructure.
"We look forward to close cooperation with Azerbaijan during its preparations for hosting the 2027 Annual Meeting," Zou Jiayi stressed.
In turn, Jabbarov stated that it is a great honor for Azerbaijan to act as the host for the 12th AIIB Annual Meeting in 2027.
"We look forward to welcoming AIIB members and partners to Baku. As a country connecting regions and supporting economic cooperation, Azerbaijan is committed to ensuring sustainable growth, innovation, and regional connectivity. The Annual Meeting will become an important platform for exchanging views and strengthening interaction on issues of future infrastructure development," the Minister of Economy stated.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is a multilateral financial institution that began its operations in 2016. Currently, the bank has 111 members from various countries around the world. The authorized capital of the AIIB is $100 billion.
