Direct cash transfers and rental housing are capable of fundamentally changing the situation in the post-disaster period, Srinivas Sampat, Director of the Urban Development Division of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), said during a panel discussion on "From Global Housing Finance to Local Action on Affordable Housing: Leveraging Global Development Finance and Sub-National Finance" held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
"The direct cash transfer mechanism has demonstrated significant results, particularly creating conditions for the financial inclusion of women-headed households," Sampat emphasized.
In addition, he drew attention to incremental housing solutions as a mechanism that enables providing housing to people in the most vulnerable conditions.
"International financial institutions should coordinate their activities at the sub-national level and assist local authorities in establishing sustainable housing provision systems in crisis situations," he stated.
