WB: Azerbaijan aims to connect 512 MW of distributed solar capacity by 2030

By 2030, Azerbaijan is expected to commission rooftop solar panels with a total capacity of 512 MW, World Bank Energy Consultant Teona Elizarashvili said during a panel discussion at the 31st International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition in Baku, Report informs.

She explained that distributed energy resources (DER) encompass small and medium-sized renewable energy generation facilities that are connected to or below the distribution grid.

"We are primarily talking about rooftop and ground-mounted solar photovoltaic installations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) that function as flexible loads, as well as other generators – wind, hydropower, and others.

Azerbaijan's plans call for rooftop solar panels to account for 18% of the 2,847 MW target – approximately 512 MW of distributed photovoltaic capacity should be integrated directly into the distribution grid by 2030," noted Elizarashvili.
