The operator of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), TAP AG, has set the planned completion date for the gas metering and pressure reduction facility for the fourth quarter of 2027, Report informs citing the company.
The project involves constructing a gas metering and pressure reduction facility at the exit point in the Fier region of southern Albania (Fier South project).
"As part of TAP's first level of expansion project, approximately 1.04 billion cubic meters per year (bcm/a) of additional long-term transportation capacity became available between Kipoi and Italy on January 1, 2026. An additional long-term capacity of approximately 0.16 bcm/a was allocated from October 1, 2026, for entry from the DESFA system and exit at a new exit point in Roskovec, Albania.
Unrelated to this expansion, the Fier South Exit Point Project aims to build a gas metering and pressure reduction facility, adjacent to ACS03 Gas Compressor Station near Fier. This facility will be handed over to the Albanian government upon completion. The planned completion date for the gas metering and pressure reduction facility is Q4 2027," the company noted.
"From October 1, 2026, the Nea Mesimvria interconnection point became bidirectional and therefore constitutes the second physical entry point into the TAP system. This development enables gas flows in both directions between TAP and the Greek natural gas transmission system and strengthens market integration and flexibility in response to evolving market conditions," the company added.
Since the Trans Adriatic Pipeline was commissioned, 61.4 bcm of gas has been transported to European countries.
TAP AG is actively engaging with the Albanian government and Albgaz regarding the establishment of an entry/exit point in the city of Fier.
As part of this project, on July 6, 2021, TAP AG, the relevant ministry, and Albgaz signed an agreement on cooperation and the transfer of infrastructure assets. Under the terms of this document, ownership rights to the facility will pass to the Albanian state upon completion of construction work. In accordance with a memorandum of understanding signed between TAP AG and the Albanian government to facilitate the development of a national gas market, the consortium contracted AGS CO to provide high-quality technical support services for the TAP pipeline system and its facilities within Albanian territory.
AGS CO is a joint venture in which the state-owned operator Albgaz holds 75% of the share capital, while the Italian company Snam S.p.A. holds 25%. The initial contract between TAP and AGS CO was signed on December 28, 2018.
