Soltanov: New technologies tested for power distribution in Karabakh

New technologies are being tested for electricity distribution in Azerbaijan's liberated territories, Azerbaijani Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Soltanov said at Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.

According to Soltanov, the average loss rate in transmission networks worldwide is about 2%, and Azerbaijan has achieved similar efficiency: "We are doing well in this area, with losses around 2%. We had some issues in the distribution system, but we are working hard to address them. What impresses me most is that we are testing the best technologies first in the liberated territories."

He explained that Azerbaijan's distribution systems usually operate from 110 kV down to 0.4 kV through several stages. However, in Karabakh, the system has been redesigned to move directly from 35 kV to 0.4 kV, significantly reducing inefficiency.

"Together with our utility services, we are testing the best technologies first in the liberated territories. Once they prove effective, we will apply them across the rest of Azerbaijan," Soltanov added.
